PLMJ Foundation appears for the first time in the International Directory of Corporate Art Collections 2016

17/03/2016

The contemporary art collection of the PLMJ Foundation has been featured in the International Directory of Corporate Art Collections 2016: Europe-Asia/Pacific. This is a leading directory by the historian Shirley Reiff Howarth, who has carried out research into corporate art collections for more than 30 years, and has edited this directory since 1983.

The PLMJ Foundation and BES Art & Finance are the only Portuguese to representatives appear in this international directory, where they are featured alongside corporate collections held by institutions including Deutsche Bank, Clifford Chance and JPMorgan Chase.

Luís Sáragga Leal, a PLMJ founding partner and president of the PLMJ Foundation says that he “is very proud to see the PLMJ Foundation achieved this recognition, appearing in one of the world's leading directories of corporate art. The PLMJ Foundation was a pioneer in its approach to sponsorship of the visual arts in Portugal and in countries where Portuguese is the official language. This approach in supporting art is one we wish to continue over the coming years, by looking carefully at new forms of artistic expression and contributing actively to shining a spotlight on the aesthetic values that guide our work".

Shirley Reiff Howarth is also developing the first directory exclusively dedicated to art collections held by law firms around the world. The name of this collection is Art Collections in the Law Firm - A Survey and Guide to Some of the Finest, and the PLMJ Foundation, set up by the law firm PLMJ, is the only Portuguese representative in this directory.

The motto of the PLMJ Foundation is "A law firm as a space for culture" and it is one of Portugal's leading cultural institutions. The PLMJ Foundation supports Portuguese art and art from Portuguese-speaking countries. It has developed a collection representing contemporary artistic output and it organises exhibitions, publications and conferences, among other projects. The PLMJ Foundation collection includes a total of 1270 pieces, representing everything from painting, drawing and sculpture to photography and video.
