PLMJ takes part in the Web Summit and confirms its position as legal partner to the business community

07/11/2016

The law firm PLMJ is supporting the Web Summit 2016, which takes place in Lisbon between 7 and 10 November at the FIL and that MEO Arena in Lisbon. The Web Summit is a global initiative and a key event in the worldwide business ecosystem. On Tuesday, PLMJ is organising a VIP cocktail party which intended to be a networking event where guests can share experiences. Several PLMJ are also taking part in the “Venture Day”, an event exclusively for investors that will take place on 7 November.

For PLMJ managing partner Luís Pais Antunes, “PLMJ is a legal partner for international investors in the Portuguese-speaking world and, as such, it was crucial for us to be involved in an event that has global importance in terms of innovation and the capacity to attract investment. This event will bring today’s trendsetters, large multinationals, investors and government decision-makers to Lisbon. We believe our presence at this event will be a competitive advantage for PLMJ and for our clients, in particular, in terms of sharing knowledge and gathering information about trends that will shape the future of technology and the digital economy. It will also enable us to make new contacts and broaden our networking”.

PLMJ has unparalleled experience providing support in Portugal for major foreign investment projects (like that of Autoeuropa) and for the world’s leading technology companies (as in the case of, for example, Microsoft, Samsung and Cisco). More recently, PLMJ has advised on the launch of start-ups like Farfetch and Uniplaces.

PLMJ’s participation in the Web Summit follows on from other initiatives taken by the law firm, such as the “Office-hours” with Startup Lisboa and the firm’s protocol with Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), under which it created a dedicated service to provide specialist legal advice and assistance in innovative venture capital projects with great potential presented by researchers and students.

The Web Summit is an event that will bring together around 50,000 people and companies, from start-ups and SMEs, large multinationals from a range of sectors. This event will help consolidate Portugal’s position as one of the best destinations for creation of new businesses and for investment.
