PLMJ senior associate Maria Cavaleiro Brandão and associate Ana Mota Monteiro (both of the firm’s Oporto office), have written an article on the recent change to the Law of Nationality for the newspaper Vida Económica.
The amendment to the law, which came into force on 3 July, makes it possible for the grandchildren of Portuguese citizens to acquire Portuguese nationality in a more consistent way. However, according to the lawyers, this law may still exclude many people who cannot demonstrate that they meet the requirements imposed by the legislature.
