Nuno Líbano Monteiro considers that the changes to civil procedure that relate to civil trials for compensation and debt collection - which imposes limit on the number of witnesses and their presence throughout the trial - is counterproductive and may have an effect opposite to the one intended. According to this PLMJ specialist, “for the reduction in the number of witnesses to reduce the number of pending cases, it would be necessary for this rule to also reduce the duration of hearings for the production of evidence”.
