After the success of the past three additions, the 4th Coimbra International Arbitration Meeting, which is Portugal’s most important international arbitration conference, will take place on 27, 28 and 29 October. The conference is being held for the sixth consecutive year and demonstrates the consolidation of arbitration in Portugal and of Portuguese arbitrators in the Portuguese-speaking world. As in previous years, the meeting will be coordinated by José Miguel Júdice, the partner who heads PLMJ Arbitration, and António Pinto Leite, the partner who heads the litigation and arbitration practice at the law firm MLGTS.
The participants and speakers come from Brazil, Spain, the United States, Finland, France, Portugal and the United Kingdom and, over three days, they will discuss the challenges of this alternative dispute resolution mechanism. The main theme of the meeting will be excellence in arbitration and there will be panels on the great arbitral tribunal, the great lawyer and the great arbitration expert.
The under-40 session will take place on Thursday, 27 October and will address topics including “Recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards” and “Arbitration and psychology”, with the latter focusing on the subconscious in arbitration. The event will include a gala dinner at Quinta das Lágrimas, when homage will be paid to the Brazilian arbitrator José Emílio Nunes Pinto, Vice-President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, and the Portuguese Arbitrator Manuel Cavaleiro Brandão, who is a partner at PLMJ.
