PLMJ advised Dixons Carphone on the sale of Phone House Portugal to group of Portuguese investors. The deal was completed on 31 August.
For Abel de Barbosa Mendonça, a senior associate in the cross-border projects team, which is part of the corporate/M&A practice, "Dixons Carphone's departure from Portugal was planned and executed to guarantee the continuity of the business and, as a consequence, the maintenance of the jobs. The complexity of the negotiations related, above all, to the constant concern of the parties to give Phone House Portugal the means it needs to develop and grow outside the group.”
Dixons Carphone is a multinational in the domestic appliances and telecommunications retail sector that was created a year ago by the merger of Dixons Retail and Carphone Warehouse Group. It was the sole shareholder of Phone House in Portugal, a chain that currently has around 750 employees and 130 stores.
