Diogo Perestrelo, partner and joint head of PLMJ's Corporate M&A practice, believes that "justice and the fight against corruption must be a priority when the aim is to attract investment". Speaking to the newspaper Jornal de Negócios for an article on measures to attract investment to Portugal, the PLMJ partner also said that "to attract investment to the country it is essential to guarantee a stable economic environment".
Portugal has a new absolute majority government and this scenario could be favourable to investors as it brings political stability. However, Perestrelo stressed that even before the elections "we already had various indicators showing us that 2022 would certainly be a year of growth in the volume of investment in Portugal after 2021 had been a very strong year".
