Francisco Pinto Balsemão at PLMJ Conference

The first Conference within the Cycle of PLMJ Conferences entitled “Great Businessmen” was held last June 22^nd and counted on the presence of Dr Francisco Pinto Balsemão as speaker.

Former Prime Minister of Portugal, and current President of the Impresa Group (a strong Portuguese group in the area of communications), Dr. Balsemão presented a brilliant speech under the title “Fiction and Reality - Information and Power” which was attentively followed by a full-room audience composed of lawyers and personalities invited by PLMJ.

Among the various issues addressed, the speaker presented his own reflections on perspectives for the future of the written press, the feasibility of generalistic TV channels and the interaction between the concentration regarding the ownership of media circuits versus the pluralism and freedom of information.

The next conference within this Cycle shall occur next July 5th and will be held at the Hexagonal room of Casa de Serralves, in Oporto. It shall count on the intervention of Dr. Artur Santos Silva, as our guest speaker.
