Da natureza das figuras - Works from the PLMJ Foundation Collection is another initiative of the PLMJ Foundation in Luanda, at the invitation of Camões - Portuguese Cultural Centre.
From 24 October to 27 November, drawing, painting, serigraph and photographic works by artists from the Foundation's collection in Angola, Luanda, will be on show to the public.
Curated by João Silvério, the title of the exhibition is closely linked to the first initiative developed in 2018 by the PLMJ Foundation and the Camões - Portuguese Cultural Centre in Luanda, which presented a selection of works by different artists from the CPLP universe. Among these works was Paulo Jazz's painting 'The Book, the Figure and Nature' from 2010.
Paulo Jazz (Luanda, 1957-2020) was a prolific artist, co-founder of the National Union of Plastic Artists in Angola, who developed a body of work that crosses references from the popular matrix (POP), in drawing and painting, with an approach to the memory of Cubism, in a freer perspective, of which this painting is an example. The exhibition is thus a reference to his memory, recorded in the work that belongs to the collection, and at the same time a return to the works of various Angolan artists, some of them exhibited for the first time in this exhibition, in which the figure or its mention in the titles of the works translates this second poetic and sharply critical nature.
The artists represented in this exhibition are Benjamim Sabby, Cláudio Rafael, Délio Jasse, Edson Chagas, Hildebrando de Melo, Kiluanji Kia Henda, Lino Damião, Ihosvanny, Paulo Jazz, Paulo Kussy and Yonamine.
Eduardo Nogueira Pinto, president of the PLMJ Foundation and partner at PLMJ, will be present at the opening of the exhibition, as will Renata Valenti, partner at RVA Advogados and member of the PLMJ Colab collaborative network.
