At the invitation of PLMJ, the senior partner of the largest Chinese law firm, Dacheng Law Offices, arrives in Portugal this week for a 7-day visit including meetings with a number of Portuguese companies and investors. Mr. Xu Yongqian agenda includes a conference promoted by AICEP together with PLMJ. The theme of the conference is ‘Doing Business With Chinese Companies’ and a number of Portuguese companies, both public and private have been invited to attend. The focus of the conference will be on the interests of Chinese investors in projects that have been planned for Portugal but also for the countries of the CPLP (Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries) as well as the potential that the Chinese market can offer to Portuguese investors. This visit follows on from the trip PLMJ partner Luís Sáragga Leal made to China in March of this year which was aimed at strengthening PLMJ’s partnership with local firm Dacheng and presenting investment opportunities in Portugal, Angola, Mozambique and Brazil to Chinese investors.
The works that have been planned for the expansion of the Port of Sines and the current package of privatisations were some of the investment opportunities that raised the interest of the Chinese investors. In addition to this, the growing demand for investments in Portuguese-speaking Africa, particularly Angola and Mozambique, has led Chinese businesspeople to look for partners in Portugal that are in a privileged position in respect of this market because of the historical, cultural and linguistic ties between Portugal and these countries.
The arrival of Mr. Xu Yongqian in Portugal is another step in the strengthening of the relationship between PLMJ and Dacheng, a firm founded 18 years ago that has offices in almost 30 Chinese cities and employs around 1900 people. Dacheng’s international presence is also assured by a its own offices in other countries and a large number of strategic partnerships.
With this partnership PLMJ broadens its geographical area of operation and sees a strengthening of its position as a business partner for Portuguese companies.
