Rute Alves, senior counsel in the Dispute Resolution practice, has written an opinion piece on how the slow pace of justice continues to be an obstacle to the realisation of major business deals in Portugal.
"Are Portuguese judges poorly trained? Do bailiffs work less? And don't lawyers want speedy justice? The slowness of justice is not the fault of the judges or those who assist them. The fault lies with the laws and the methods".
The PLMJ lawyer stresses the need to discuss concrete ideas for speeding up justice in Portugal. "Speedy justice is not a privilege, it's a right. And it can be achieved".
