Tax specialists claim that the extraordinary tax also applies to the Azores and Madeira.

Rogério M. Fernandes Ferreira, the partner who heads PLMJ’s tax practice, believes that the extraordinary tax of 3.5% will apply in the same way to both mainland Portugal and the islands of the Azores and Madeira despite the fact that these islands have lower rates of personal income tax than on the mainland.
