PLMJ partner Tiago Duarte, who specialises in constitutional law, has pointed out that “in Portugal, the President of the Republic has always from the Government from the party with the largest number of votes”. Speaking to the newspaper Diário Económico, the partner from PLMJ’s public law practice made it clear that “the Constitution does not require a Government from the majority but the President of the Republic has demonstrated this preference”. Tiago Duarte says that in cases like this, the President may take only 48 hours to make a decision.
