Through the Angolan firm GLA, PLMJ Network received an honourable mention in the category of Property and Construction Team of the year at the African Legal Awards 2018. The announcement was made last Friday at a ceremony held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
PLMJ partner Diogo Duarte de Campos coordinated the legal advice on the Kora Angola project, which was handled by a team made up of Angolan lawyers from GLA and members of the PLMJ Angola Desk. The project resulted from a joint venture between Sonangol Imobiliária (SONIP) and the Vital Capital Fund, and it was the only award for the Portuguese-speaking legal world at the African Legal Awards 2018.
Present at the event were Bruno Xavier Pina, the partner who heads the Angola Desk, Sandra Saraiva and Elsa Tchicanha, both GLA lawyers, Tomás Timbane, the partner responsible for TTA Advogados and Pascoal Bié, a TTA lawyer, who had attended the Corporate Counsel Forum Africa on the previous day. This meeting addressed different views on the African legal world and explored the prospects for the future of this growing market.
For Bruno Xavier de Pina, the partner and who heads the Angola Desk, this distinction is "a demonstration of the work done by a team whose deep knowledge of the market and high technical quality are recognised by everyone".
The African Legal Awards are organised by the reputable British publication Legal Week and by the Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa, and their aim is to recognise the work of major international firms and leading independent firms in Africa.
