Following the approval of preventive measures to avoid the escalation of the COVID-19 pandemic, Executive Decree No. 122/20, of 24 March 2020 imposes an obligation on public and private companies to prepare and apply contingency plans to mitigate the spread of the pandemic within their structures. This obligation extends to entities covered by the General Labour Law.
The statute also provides that absences of employees who are subject to quarantine or whose activity is suspended due to the pandemic are considered justified absences and employers must ensure the payment of their salaries in full and on time.
