#63 | Conversation with artist Gabriela Noujaim

16/06/2023

Gabriela Noujaim was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1983. Her taste for art manifested itself at an early age, and at the age of 12 she was enrolled at the School of Visual Arts (EAV) in Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro. Her work raises questions about the ancestral socio-environmental heritage of indigenous peoples, the protection of women's bodies from aggression, and the limitations of the socio-political structures of Brazilian society. The artist, who graduated in Printmaking from the UFRJ School of Fine Arts in 2007, has structured her poetics around her interest in the technical image constructed from video, photography and, initially, printmaking, and the idea of fixing an image in time. She has recently joined the PLMJ Foundation Collection and is a guest on the PLMJ Podcast.
