Maria is an associate in the Dispute Resolution practice where she specialises in banking and financial litigation, and litigation in competition matters.
She advises Portuguese and international clients from the banking and financial sector in disputes relating to the issuance and sale of financial instruments, civil liability of directors and banking secrecy. She also advises public bodies on disputes arising from the issuance of debt and savings products. In the area of competition law, she is actively involved in some of the most significant private enforcement actions in Portugal.
In addition to the advice Maria provides on dispute resolution, she regularly participates in multidisciplinary teams advising international clients on the acquisition of NPL portfolios. In such teams she focuses on identifying procedural risks and on defining procedural strategies for value recovery.
Maria has a law degree from the Nova School of Law and a masters in litigation and arbitration from the same faculty. She is also a conflict mediator and is on the list of mediators of the Directorate-General for Justice Policy.
Before joining PLMJ, Maria worked as a mediator at the National Centre for Consumer Conflicts Information and Arbitration.
