Rute is a senior counsel in the Dispute Resolution practice. She has more than 10 years of experience in dispute resolution, with the last few years dedicated to domestic and international arbitration, particularly in the areas of corporate, financial, commercial, energy, projects and infrastructure disputes.
Rute was the coordinator of the Under-40 Council of the APA (Portuguese Arbitration Association), is currently the secretary of the general meeting of the APA and the coordinator of the Under-40 Council of the Coimbra International Arbitration Meetings, as well as a member of various associations.
In addition to her legal practice, Rute has experience as an arbitrator and secretary to arbitral tribunals.
She holds an LL.M. in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution from Queen Mary University of London and a master's degree in Business Law from the Faculty of Law of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She also attended the postgraduate programme in energy law at the Universidade Católica.
Rute has published articles on various arbitration topics, including the production of witness evidence, challenges to arbitral awards and the duties of disclosure, independence and impartiality of arbitrators. She is an active arbitrator in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.
Rute also has experience in other areas: she was a mediator in consumer disputes at UMAC, an assistant to the Secretary of State for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the 18th Government and an intern research assistant for Portugal at LexisNexis, Reed Elsevier (UK) in London.
